Fatal House Fire Birchwood At Pulaski Hwy 6/06/10

Just before 6am Ansonia Fire Department sounded Box 327 for a structure fire with possible people trapped at Birchwood Drive and Pulaski Highway. First arriving units arrived to find a well involved 2 story single family home with heavy fire showing from the front of the structure. Incoming units were instructed to approach the scene from Finney St and lay in from the hydrants on Birchwood. An initial attempt was made to enter the structure to search for possible victims but fire fighters were pushed out by the intensity of the blaze. The fire was knocked down in about 10 to 15 minutes to knock down the fire with hand lines and crews were able to reach the victim who unfortunately was already deceased. Truck 7 was set up to assist the crews with hitting the hot spots and hydraulic overhaul wih the truck's monitor. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ansonia Fire Marshal.
