Beacon Falls Volunteer Fire

Two Alarm House Fire 144 Blackberry Hill Rd 9/8/13

Beacon Falls Volunteers responded to the report of a house fire with possible explosions at 144 Blackberry Hill Rd. Crews arrived to find a heavy fire and smoke condition and reports of the occupant possibly trapped. A primary search was made and the victim was located and pulled from the well involved structure by EMS Chief /FF Jeremy Rodrigo. The victim was immediately transported to Waterbury Hospital by a waiting Beacon Falls FD ambyulance. Fire fighters were greatly hampered by the Colliers Mansion situation inside the structure making it dangerous to move about inside so an exterior attack was taken up. Mutual aid from Oxford, Bethany, and Seymour provided manpower and station coverage and a ladder company fro the Borough of Naugatuck provided the much needed aerial support. It took an extended period of time to bring the fire under control due to the difficulty reaching the heavy fire in the attic space. The building was so badly damaged it had to be demolished in the end. Two fire fighters also sustained injuries which were reported as minor due to the fire suppression efforts.
