Another area that sees it's fair share of fire the vacant commercial structures along West Jefferson in southwest Detroit. Crews arrived to a 2 story vacant factory going throughout and a second alam was struck (the 3 third but not last in 2 days) bringing additional engines and a tower ladder to take on the raging fire. As I got of I-75 from the downtown area the smoke tower was rising up infront of me and I knew that this would be a major fire. As the two ladders dumped huge amounts of waer from above ground crews used monitors and large diameter handlines to get water on the fire. Heavy smoke pushed throught the bricks of the structure and you knew that the building's structural integrety was compromised. As the tower pouded the c/d corner the D-side would be the first to collapse followed by the A-side narrowly missing both ladder trucks. When all was said and done the wholw building would be reduced to a pile of steaming bricks.
