Fire fighters arrived on the scene at 3 Theresa St to find heavy fire showing from the front porch of a single family dwelling. The family that resided there were awake from sleep by the sound of a smoke detector going off. A good example of "smoke Detectors Save Lives" as they exited the structure immediately and notified the fire department of the fire. These quick actions allowed the fire crews to quickly bring the fire under control before it engulfed the whole structure. Waterbury Fire responded with one mutual aid engine and were used for station coverage at Naugatuck Fire Headquarters. The fire appears to have been caused by a wood stove but it remains under investigation by the borough fire marshal.
