Structure Fire 17 Moose Hill Rd 5/06/11

Oxford Fire was dispatched for a structure fire at 17 Moose Hill Rd shortly after 12:30pm on 5/6/11. As part of their mutual aid agreement an engine from Seymour was also dispatched to the scene. Seymour's Engine 13 which was already manned and returning to station after a demostration was the first to arrive and found heavy fire showing from a single family dwelling which was approximately 500 yds setback off the road. The Oxford crews which were minutes behind setup the ladder truck and layed supply supply lines from a hydrant located directly across the street from the scene. Due the large accumulation of belongings of the residents crews had a difficult time pushing in to fight the fire ("Collyer's Mansion") coupled with the rapidly deteriorationg conditions and an immenent roof collapse evacuation tones and horns were sounded and a par determined all fire fighters were safely out of the building. An exterior attack was begun and the fire brought under control after approximately 45 minutes. Additional mutual aid companies from surrounding towns provided station coverage as an extended overhaul operations would be in effect. Several fire fighters were evaluated by Oxford EMS for minor injuries.
