Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire

Fully Involved Structure 5 Morgan Dr 11/14/10

At approximately 4am fire broke out in a 3600sq ft private residence at 5 Morgan Dr in rthe Sandy Hook section of Newtown. Fire crews arrived to find the structure fully involved and calls went out to Southbury Volunteers as well as the fairfield County Tanker Task Force bringing multiple tankers to provide water to battle the blaze on the nonhydranted street. Multiple pumpers kept the water flowing to the two ladders and multiple lines in operation at the end of the log supply lay. The property also housed 30 horses which were at no point in danger as the stable was a good distance from the fire. The residents and a guest escaped the fire with only one person being evaluated foer smoke inhalation. Fire crews would remain on scene dousing the remnants of the house for several hours. Local news sources report the fire appeared to have started in the garage area but the blaze remains under investigation. The Red Cross was called to assist the family in finding shelter as the residence was a total loss.
