Thomaston Volunteer Fire

Fully Involved Residential Dwelling 350 Hill Rd 07/12/14

Call came in for a possible basement fire. The police officer who arrived on scene reported a working fire. By the time the first fire apparatus arrived the 2.5 story house built in the 1800's was fully involved. There were reports of ammunition going off in the building initially as well as a release of a propane tank in the basement and a breech in the heating oil tank which probably fueled the fire as well. A water source was set up quickly and attack line stretched as well as opening the monitor on Engine 10 and the Harwinton mutual aid Engine. A tanker shuttle was established using Terryville,Northfield, and Harwinton mutual aid tankers along with Thomaston's Tanker. With building so well involved prior to arrival it was a total loss with the structure eventually collapsing. An excavator was brought in to pull the debris part for the final wet down. The DEEP and State Fire Marshal were on the scene to investigate the scene and help contain the fuel oil spill from the breached tank.
