Wykeham Rise Boarding School was a historic property in the town of Washington,CT. Once a prestigous all girls boarding school established in 1902 and know recently when it was leased by the Rolling Stones in1989 as a retreat to rehearse for theirr world concert tour (much to the displeasure of the local residents) went up in flames early Sunday night. The property was purchased by a development company recentlywith plans in Dec of 2016 to break ground on a $70 million resort/ condomium property after after a long uphill battle tothe necessary zoning for the project. Fire fighters arrived to find the vacant main school building with heavy fire showing. 10 plus towns wer summoned to the scene with the 2 regional tanker strike teams as the rural area has no municipal water supply. Crews battled the heavy fire for several hours before it was brought under control. The historic building was confirmed a total loss and the fire considered suspicios in nature and under investigation at this time by the State Police and State Fire Marshal's Office.
