Multi Alarm Structure Fire Involving Four Multiple Family Dwellings Lounsbury St 05/17/17

Waterbury firefighters knew they had their job cut out for them with three large well involved multiple dwellings going on arrival. With hot dry conditions and wind the fire would spread across the street to also involve another multiple dwelling. With only so much water and alot of fire the initial effort was to contain the fire so it would not take up the whole neighborhood. In all he fire was kept to the 4 houses only though they would sustain heavy damage and hve to be demolished days later. 37 people lost their homes and everything they owned but there were no civilian injuries or loss of life. 4 aWaterbury firefighter had to go to the hospitsl for injuries related to the supression efforts. With every piece of equipment commmited to the fire, mutual aid was brought in from Watertown,Middlebury, Prospect,Naugatuck,Wolcott and Cheshire to cover the multiple calls in the City and assist in the suppression effort at the scene. Thcause of the fire is still under investigation and effeorts are being made to assist the victims to find housing and replace their possessions.
