Waterbury Fire Department

Vehicle Extrication Bunker Hill Ave At Genoa St 2/13/2009

With the first due companies and rescue tied up at the scene of a fire minutes away, Engine 2 and Truck 3 were dispatched from across town to the scene of a one car crash requiring extrication at the corner of Genoa St and Bunker Hill Ave. It appeared as though the driver lost control of the vehicle and may have rolled it over before it came to rest against a utlity pole trapping him between the dashboard and the pole. After assessing the situation Rescue 9 was requested to assist the crews already on scene, as the Rescue had just been released from the fire scene. After approximately 20 minutes the combative patient was freed from the wreck and transported to Waterbury Hospital by AMR medics. A trauma alert was requested due to the suspicion of a head injury as well as the potential for multi system trauma due to the mechanism of injury.
