Waterbury Fire Deparment

Extrication Grandview Ave 5/13/09

When the owner of this Hyundai Veracrez awoke he found his car had been stolen from in front of his home. Upon returning from reporting it stolen at Waterbury Police Headquarters he spotted his car and called 911 as he followed it. Waterbury Police intercepted the vehicle and attempted to make a stop at which time the perpetrator took off at a high rate of speed. He lost control of the vehicle in the area of 347 Grandview Ave hitting a large section of chainlink fence and a tree in front of the location. He narrowly missed being impaled by the steel pipe which was used to support the upper part of the fence when the impact drove it through the windshield, the entire length of the car, and out the rear quarter of the drivers side at the roof line. Fire crews used the Jaws and rams to pop the doors and roll the dashboard to gain access to the driver for the waiting AMR Ambulance medics. The patient was transported to Waterbury Hospital in police custody for further evaluation and treatment.
