Waterbury Fire Department

Multiple Alarm Factory Fire Between West Main and Freight Sts 5/08/10

Engine 6 was dispatched to the area of West Main and Judd St, when the arrived they found heavy fire in the now vacant office structure of the old Anaconda Brass Mill and later the offices of Enviromental Waste Removal. The response would soon escalate to the point that almost every unit in the City was on the scene. With high winds fanning the fire and blowing embers to the south east there was a concern for the exposure risks for the buldings in their path. Mutual aid for station coverage was dispatched from Watertown,Wolcott,Prospect, and the Borough of Naugatuck. The main body of fire was knocked down in about an hour but not until after ther was a partial collapse of the structure's roof. Waterbury crews and the mutual aid would be held while extended overhaul operations were undertaken.
