2 Alarm Structure Fire 21-23 Thibault St 04/21/13

At 12:17pm Winsted Volunteers were toned out for a structure fire on Thibault St. As crews responded to fire headquarters reports from officers had heavy smoke visible from Main St. Police officers who were first on scene reported heavy fire and smoke from the second floor of a large multiple family dwelling and that all occupants were out but the second floor resident's dog was still in the structure. Crews intially had water supply problems with a broken hydrant but they laid in from the next hydrant and one from the opposite end of the street with success. When the door to the second floor was forced the resident's dog was waiting their and brought to safety by the fire fighters. Heavy fire consumed the rear of the structure and quickly spread through the attic space requiring all to be pulled from building and a defensive attack ensued. With 2 ladder streams and multiple handlines the crews knocked the fire down but the building sustained major structural damage and the two adjacent exposures had the vinyl siding on the sides facing the fire building melted. There were no civilian injuries and one fire fighter injury sustained. The fire marshal was on scene to investigate the blaze after it was brought under control.
