Winsted/Winchesterr Fire Department

Structure Fire Occupied Dwelling 115 Prospect St 3/3/14

Shortly after 3am Winsted and Wichester Volunteers were toned out for a structure fire at 115 Prospect St in Winsted. As crews were responding to their respective stations the Winsted Police reported that they had a 2 & 1/2 story wood from dwelling with heavy smoke showing and the first floor fully involved with fire. They also reported that the sole occupant and his dog were safely evacuated from the structure. Companies layed in supply line from both ends of the street and the department's ladder was positioned in the front of the building to address the heavy fire self venting from the roof. Companies stretched in and were able to use an interior attack for approximately 20 minutes until the conditions deteriorated to the point that it was unsafe to be in the building and an exterior attack was taken up. There were no injuries as a result of the fire but the structure was damaged beyond being able to be occupied.
