Multi Car MVA with 14 Patients

A trailer truck with a blown engine on the westbound side of I-84 may have contributed to a multi car crash in the eastbound lanes between exits 16 and 17 in Middlebury. Middlebury Fire and the State Police were responding to a reported truck fire westbound before exit 16 and found the multiple car accident in the westbound median. The accident which involved 5 passenger vehicles and a handicap transport van sent 14 people to the hospital and tied up traffic in both directions for miles. Middlebury Fire's 2 ambulances were assisted by additional units from Campion and AMR service based in Waterbury. None of the patients sustained life threatening injuries and all were transported BLS to St Marys and Waterbury Hospital.
