Naugatuck Fire

Multi Alarm Commercial 550 North Spring St 10/08/11

Shortly before 2am Naugatuck Fire was dispatched for an alarm sound at 550 North Spring St. Workers in a warehousing area behind Multi Metal Manufacturing thought they heard an alarm sounding so the called 911 to report it. The first arriving police unit arrived to find the front of the 100 x 150 structure fully engulfed in flames. As fire fighters arrived on scene they realized they would need some help getting this fire under control so a request was made to Waterbury for two additional engines and an additional truck company. With mutual aid on the way Naugatuck stretched in supply lines and set up their masterstreams and ladder for an exterior attack. The Waterbury crews arrived and hooked a hydrant north of the scene to lay in a large diameter supply line which the would use their 2 engines to supply the operations to the additional truck company. Crews would flow water for almost 2 hours before the fire was knocked down. In the early stages of the attack the roof collapsed on the structure putting an end to the thought of any possibility of an interior attack. Crews would remain on scene for hours trying to extinguish the many hot spots beneath the collapsed roof. No injuries civilian or fire fighter were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Naugatuck Fire Marshal.
