Multi Alarm Structure Fire 313 Cotton Hill Rd 03/16/12

New Hartford Fire received a call for a fire in an attached garage at 313 Cotton Hill Rd. When the Connecticut State Police arrived on scene they reported that the garage was fully involved and the fire spreading to the main structure. The officer attempted to make entry to check for victims but was pushed back by the intense fire. He did manage to release the family dog which was trapped in the burning house. The first due engine had to lay in about 500 feet of large diameter feeder hose as the house was located on an interior lot and set far from the street. The call went out for mutual aid for tankers and man power from Harwinton,Burlington, and later Drakeville. A tanker shuttle was established using a fire pond athe intersection of Harmony Hill Rd and Cotton Hill and the portable ponds were set up at the end of the residence's driveway to supply Nepaugh Engine 1. Crews would spend several hours to finally bring the fire under control but not before the it would damage the structure beyond repair. Crews would remain on scene for an exteded period to wet down the remains of the home to avoid a rekindle. The fire marshal was on scene and there is an active investigation ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
