Multi Alarm Structure Fire Tocci Brothers Tire Warehouse and O&G Industries Warehouse Albert St 04/03/14

Torrington Fire crews arrived to find heavy fire showing from the Tocci Brothers Tire Warehouse between Albert St and Taylor St. The 100x200 commercial structure also housed warehouse space for O&G Industries a large contruction firm. With the Tocci facility packed floor to ceiling with tires the fire department knew they had a significant fuel source which would be difficult to extinguish. With all available career personel called back mutual aid for engines, ladders, and manpower went out to the surrounding towns and municipalities. In all 12 departments ans over 250 firefighters would join the battle. The fire would bring the evacuation of surrounding residential neighborhoods as the thick black smoke covered the area. Also of concer were the large fire balls from the burning tired threatening to igniite the wood frame residences in the surrrounding neighborhoods. In order to extinguish the tires the state foam trailers were also brought in from Winsted, Waterbury,Bristol, Danbury, and the Dept of Homeland Security. The stubborn fire would 13 hours to bring under control and companies would return the next day to wet down hotspots. The structure would be a total loss with major structural collapses bring both the metal Tocci building and the mainly cinder block O&G building to the ground.
