Waterbury Fire

Well Involve Occupied Multiple Dwelling 81 Robbins St 11/29/16

At 00:29 the alarm sound for a stucture fire at 81 Robbins St directly across the street from Waterbury Hospitals ER entrance. The third floor occupant told me she awoke to the smell of smoke and upon investigation saw heavy fire roaring on the back porch at which point she evacuated the building with her children unfortunately she could not gather her cats. Upon arrival the battalion chief report a large wood frame with the rear porches fully involve and asked for an additional engine above the first alarm to come down Colley St and stretch into the rear yards there to get get water on the porches and protect the exposure which was separated from the fire building by an approximately 12 foot wide driveway. Interior crews stretched multiple lines up to the third floor to make progress on the fire in the attic space and cockloft as exterior crews workeed the fire with multiple hand line around the structure. THe fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes but in the end the building would be uninhabitable leaving 11 people displaced. THe Red Cross was called to the scene to help those affected find temporary shelter and their immediate personal needs as many of their belonging were lost in the fire.
