Winsted/Winchester Volunteer Fire

2 Alarm Structure Fire 179 Danbury Quarter Rd 10/16/13

Volunteers from Winsted and Winchester Companies were dispatched for a structure fire on Danbury Quarter Rd. The first due officer was directed over an open wooden bridge and up a half mile access rd to the dwelling to find that the log home had heavy fire showing from the roof. Due to questions of the weight capacity of the bridge a water supply was set up at on the road and LDH supply line was laid up the access road. Four engines were set up in line to pump up the hill and give adequate pressure for attack. The first in engines crew attempted and interior attack but were pushed back by fast spreading fire which was being fed by a now venting large propane tank. Crews were pulled back as the propain vent and when it was determined safe an exterior attack of the fully involved structure was mounted. With the help of the county tanker task force crews worked to bring the fire under control. All occupants escaped without injury but unfortunately the structure was a total loss
