Watertown Volunteer Fire

Live Burn Drill Circa Fall of 1979 or 1980

When the owner of this house build a new one on his property on Plungis Rd he donated it to the fire department for a live burn drill. The house was prepped for the burn and set on fire and was quickly consumed in flames. Crews had multiple large diameter lines to keep the fire contained and protect the new house which was about 150 feet away. The spectacular blaze was so hot that it actually melted the vinyl siding on the exposure (pic #22). In pictures 19 and 21 you can see Chief Avery Lamphier who has the distinction of being one of he first inductees into the Connecticut Fire Fighers Hall of Fame.
